The Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in Cairo and transfer to Alexandria. VIP meet-and-greet at the Cairo International Airport and a group coach transfer to Alexandria (2.5-3 hrs). Overnight in Alexandria, at a Mediterranean-facing hotel.

  • Day 2: Alexandria’s Catacombs, Citadel and Cafes. Descend into the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, a multi-level subterranean burial complex blending Roman and Egyptian iconography. Visit the Citadel of Qaitbay, built on the foundations of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse. Integrate the impressions with the evening walk to the historic colonial-era cafe and enjoy Turkish coffee and sweet treats. Overnight stay in Alexandria.

  • Day 3: Nile Ceremony in Rashid/Rosetta. Drive to the historic port town where the French soldiers found the Rosetta Stone. Tour the beautifully preserved Ottoman-era houses and the Citadel in Rashid. Drive to Cairo, check into the hotel and rest.

  • Day 4: Giza Plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Early morning visit to the Khufu Pyramid and the Sphinx. In the afternoon, visit the GEM. Overnight stay in Cairo.

  • Day 5: The evolution of Pyramids (Saqqara and Dahshur). In the morning, visit Saqqara, enter the Step Pyramid and marvel at the pyramid texts inside the Tomb of Unas. In the afternoon, head to Dahshur to view the architectural evolution of the Bent Pyramid and go inside the Red Pyramid. Overnight stay in Cairo.

  • Day 6: Hermopolis. Drive south to Tuna el-Gebel and the New Hermopolis eco-retreat in Middle Egypt. Check into the limestone-domed studio and spend the rest of the day integrating the experiences from the first half of the journey. Overnight stay at the New Hermopolis eco-retreat.

  • Day 7: The Wonders of Middle Egypt. Stand before the rock-cut cliffs of Beni Hassan, exploring the highly detailed Middle Kingdom athletic and military murals. Visit Hermopolis Magna (today’s el-Ashmunein) and connect with 4.5-meter quartzite Thoth Statues. Hermopolis was the primary cult centre for Thoth, the god of wisdom, magic, and writing. Delve into the subterranean Catacombs of Thoth at Tuna el-Gebel and the Tomb of Petosiris. Overnight stay at New Hermopolis eco-retreat.

  • Day 8: Depart Hermopolis to Abydos. On the way to Abydos, visit the Hanging Monastery (Deir el-Mualaq) near Asyut, a remarkable Coptic complex built straight into a high mountain cave. In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Seti I in Abydos. Overnight stay in Abydos.

  • Day 9: Transfer from Abydos to Dendera. Drive from Abydos to Dendera and visit the Temple of Hathor in Dendera. Continue driving to Luxor, check in to the hotel and overnight stay in Luxor.

  • Day 10: Luxor. Visit the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepsut. In the evening, visit the Temple of Luxor at sunset.

  • Day 11: Karnak Temple at dawn for the Winter Solstice. Arrive early at Karnak Temple to celebrate the return of the Sun during the Winter Solstice alignment, where the morning sun shines directly through the main temple axis and columns. In the afternoon, walk the Avenue of Sphinxes and visit the Luxor Temple. Overnight stay in Luxor.

  • Day 12: Early morning flight from Luxor to Cairo and final departure from Cairo International Airport.
